Online Learning Resources and LRC support

Even if the LRC is closed, there are still a number of ways in which the LRC can support you and your learners. This short video will provide you with an overview of how to access e-resources online.

Use the LRC Catalogue’s advanced search to find e-books. If there is no e-book of the titles on your reading list, choose a title that is similar. It is likely that it will contain the same information. Try to use the most up to date e-book, as these will have the most recent information in them.

Use Discovery to find e-books and e-journals. Discovery searches in one place for all the e-books and e-journals we have access to. You can narrow your search to a specific resource type like e-books only or academic journals. There are research starters too which will give you an overview of a topic. Discovery defaults to searching for full text, you can though make it search for abstracts too. Where there is a green full text button, we have access to the article. If there is not, then we have access to the abstracts only. Where there is an e-book, the results will say Click here to access the eBook.

If you find Discovery overwhelming, you can search by the E-resources List, which splits the resources by resource type and the publishers we get them from. It will also give you access to some extra resources, as searching the publisher’s website returns their open access resources and abstracts to content, we do not subscribe to.

The Information/Research Skills page provides an area where you can find a list of free resources and help with finding and evaluating information and how to reference. The Copyright free resources page lists resources you can use without seeking permission from the original creator. You will still need to reference them. The Open access resources lists websites where you can find resources that have free access. Again, you still need to reference them.

The LRC staff will still be working and you can contact them for support by:
